“Where ya joy at?”

I kept trying to rename this post.  But I can’t get past these words. My heart is so burdened for us as the church this morning.

Where.  Is.  Our.  Joy??

When the world looks at us, do they see anything that makes them want what we have?  Heck, do we look like we want what we have?

The enemy knows what it takes to bring us to our knees (and I’m not talking about in prayer).  He’s had a bird’s eye view into our lives and into the lives of humanity for y.e.a.r.s.  He knows what it takes to knock you down.  And he wants to use that to keep us down and out.

He wants your joy.  He wants you to keep silent.  He wants to make you feel like you’re drowning in your struggle and that there’s no way out.  He wants you to be in a funk.  And he makes sure others take notice when you’re at your worst.

You need to watch this brief video.  God put it so heavy on my heart this morning and I pray it stirs you up.

Don’t let the enemy steal your joy.  The world needs to see this unfathomable, uncontainable joy that we have in Christ Jesus.

Now go out and spread some joy, guys!  ❤

Fighting With Faith

You think it could never happen to you. Until you find a lump. And then everything changes.

This is my friend, Sarah. Her and her husband have a beautiful little girl and two foster children. They also pastor a growing church in Braydenton, FL.

She’s young. A healthy eater. And cancer doesn’t even run in her family. Yet tests came back positive. For the “C” word.

Just because you have Jesus doesn’t mean you’ve been handed a ticket to a worry free life. Christians still face larger than life situations. But here’s the kicker – we don’t face them alone.

There have only been a few times in my life I can say that God has allowed me to “feel” someone’s burden and carry it with them. Feel it to where I physically hurt. Where the tears come in such heavy down pours. When my heart feels like it’s been linked to theirs and I find myself begging God to intervene.

Now I am not rolling in the dough. We are not loaded. I wanted to help but wasn’t sure what I could do to make a drop in the ocean of funds it would take to make a difference.

When praying for a way to help my friend, God reminded me of this pretty cool resource He gave me last year. Real Mom Moments. And immediately I knew that this book project was way bigger than me. That God foreknew what Sarah would be facing and that help was already on the way. And that it would be a double whammy – helping Sarah fight cancer and help moms who would come together to help Sarah.

I pray that you’re able to help in some way. Whether you purchase a book for yourself to help fund Sarah’s treatment or whether you make it your mission to not only help her, but also find a few moms in your inner circle who could use some inspiration and purchase a hand full of books, every penny of the profit during the month of April will go to Sarah’s cancer treatment.

Sarah and I both thank you in advance for your support! Here’s to #fightingwithfaith !!

Please click the link at the top of the page titled “Real Mom Moments Book” to order your copies today! Or click here to go directly to the publisher’s website to order!

Please check out Sarah’s blog www.fightingwithfaith.org to follow her journey! She would love to connect with you!

Thank you for supporting this amazing young woman and her journey fighting with faith!

It ain’t over ’til God says it’s over.

It’s hard calling it “Good Friday.”  Because for what it appeared, it looked to be anything but good.  The Messiah flogged, beaten, spit upon, mocked and his tattered flesh brutally nailed to a wooden splinter-ridden cross.  Sounds more like #worstdayever

Ohhh honey… but I believe Jesus knew deep down, despite the physical agony, despite the vast array of emotions – despite it all, He knew that it was indeed a good Friday.

It was on this particular day, even though it started off on the wrong foot, that He accomplished more than He had accomplished in His life thus far.  Yes He had healed people, yes He performed miracles and brought many into the family of God.  However on this day, the curtain was torn in the temple giving us access to the Father anytime, any place.  He did what no one else could do and became the sacrifice for the sins of the world so that ALL could accept the gift of eternal life.  He took a three day hiatus to show the devil who was boss and that death had no power over Him.  Now them’s shouting words right there!  #itaintover

It ain't over

I don’t know what you’re facing today, but I know who holds you in the palm of His hands.  It may look like it’s anything but good right now, but just wait – Sunday is coming.  Life is coming.  Resurrection is coming!  It may appear that you’ve been forgotten, washed up and left mangled to pieces, but I know a man who has been there, done that and bought way more than a t-shirt to prove that it’s not the end.  It’s instead, part of the process.

We couldn’t have the triumph without the trial.  We couldn’t have the testimony without the test.

We have hope because He didn’t walk out when it got uncomfortable.  He didn’t throw in the towel and call for backup.  He endured what was before Him and proved we truly are overcomers through Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:37)

It may hurt right now and not make any sense, but there is always a purpose.  Always remember, what the enemy means for your harm, God can turn around for your good.  (Romans 8:28)

Happy Good Friday, y’all!  ❤  Just wanted to share my heart in a brief video.  I pray it encourages you like it did me!

(These videos always capture a still shot of the worst facial expressions! haha!)

lawd have mercy.

Mercy.

Google defines it as “compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.”

Can you use a little mercy today?
Think about this for a moment.

There are 365 days in a year. Take your age and multiply that by 365. Seriously, do this right now. 😀

I’m 27. And 27 x 365 = 9,855

God has given me 9,855 mercy moments. Fresh starts. Brand spanking new opportunities. That’s mind blowing!

Tomorrow is coming and with that new tomorrow comes new mercy. Because God knew today’s leftovers just wouldn’t cut it.

Each day requires new mercy. And baby that heavenly goodness is better than a gooey chocolate chunk cookie straight out of the oven. Straight from the throne room of a risen Savior with the keys to death, hell and the grave – new mercy awaits you and I.

So if you feel like you bombed today, wipe the dirt off your knees and the tears of frustration from your eyes. Tomorrow is coming. And so is a perfectly packaged bundle of mercy.

Don’t Hide Your Gift <3

Since the beginning of time, God has been in the fixer upper business.

He doesn’t generally pick those in the front of the line.  He’s known for patiently waiting on those the world overlooks.  The rejected, despised, “too young,” “too old,” inexperienced newbies.  He takes the ones who are picked last in gym class and brings them front and center.

“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.” 1 Corinthians 1:27

David was a smelly shepherd boy.  Sampson had a problem with women.  Moses was a murderer.  Rahab was a hooker.

You are I are no different.  We may not have a track record quite comparable to these celebrities of the biblical era, but I imagine you have a story too.  And it’s one that someone needs to hear.  But let me tell you, that can that be so intimidating.  Especially when we feel underqualified.  Undereducated.  Unprepared.  *insert additional “un” words here ____*

It’s easy to try to talk God out of His master plan when it feels so much bigger than us.  Heck, Moses did it.  God called him by speaking through a burning bush and Moses was quick to attempt convincing Him that He was better off choosing someone else to carry out the mass exodus of letting His people go.  God presented the plan while Moses crumbled under pressure.

gods plan

Have you been there?  I have.

Can I be real with you?  You are not a carbon copy.  There has never been anyone quite like you.  You are uniquely created to carry out a divine purpose.  And God has something specific in mind for you to accomplish during your lifetime that only you can do.  You have world-changing power living inside of you.  Don’t hide your gift.

I didn’t grow up thinking I would ever be capable of being a women’s speaker.  (I still don’t think I’m capable.  lol)  Or blogger for that matter.  Or an author.  But God has a way of weaving desires and purpose into our lives long before we were formed in our mother’s womb.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5

You have been set apart to fulfill a specific purpose.  No one else can do what God has called you to do.  Your calling won’t look identical to anyone else’s and comparing will only breed jealousy and discontentment.  And a date with a big tub of ice cream and box of tissues.

It’s scary stepping out in faith.  But sometimes the only way to reach Jesus and His divine plan for our life is to meet Him in the deep waters.  Ask Peter.  The waves and wind created fear and havoc around him, yet he stepped out of the boat and walked out to meet His Savior.  (How awesome would that have been to have Instagram back then?  #selfieSunday #walkingonwater #jesusfreakingrocks )

What’s holding you back?  Are you afraid of failure?  Expectations from others weighing you down?  I promise you, there is no greater joy than fulfilling God’s calling on your life.  Is it scary?  Yes!  Will you fall flat on your face sometimes?  Definitely.  But the amazing thing is that God isn’t calling for perfection – He’s calling for obedience.

plan

I’ve been back and forth about whether or not to share this video, but I feel like someone needs to see this.  Below is a clip from one of my first speaking engagements.  I’m no pro, by any means.  lol  But I have been learning to simply say “yes” to God and trust Him in the unknown.  If you’re encouraged, please feel free to share.  ❤

Don’t let fear overcome you and hold you back from walking into your Promised Land.  The children of Israel made that detrimental mistake and it took them 40 years to make a 14 day journey.

When He calls you to walk on the water, remember who created those waters in the first place.

Naked Prayers

“God’s not dead, He’s surely alive! He’s living on the inside roaring like a lion.”  – Newsboys

And that He did.

Today, actually.

This morning I found myself in the shower crying. The realization that God uses cracked vessels to accomplish His will is so overwhelming.

“Use me, Lord. I just want to touch someone’s heart and be your hands and feet today…”

Cleaning the house this morning and surfing Facebook, I happened upon our worship leader’s status:

One minute I’m dusting, folding clothes, wiping butts….

Then out of nowhere, BAM! A craving for a Chick-fil-A sandwich, waffle fries, Dr. Pepper and a warm cookie hit this preggo like a freight train. So of course the kids and I on a whim, hop in the van, drive 45 minutes down the road to the closest CFA.

Honestly I had forgotten about my shower prayer. But God hadn’t.

We ordered our food and the kids took off to the playground. Walking to the table, a gentleman in army uniform caught my eye.

And that’s when I heard it: Pay for his meal.

I knew that voice. I’ve heard it many times. It was the gentle, yet roaring prompting of the Holy Spirit.

The man walks up to a lady in pink, obviously his wife, and 4 small children. Now I was prepared to pay for his meal. But suddenly the tab grew larger. Yet the prompting grew stronger by the minute.

Pay for the meal. Their meal.

Now I don’t know if it’s because the 4th of July is only days away and it was some type of subconscious patriotism or if this family truly needed to see genuine love from another human being, but regardless, God connected our paths for a divine purpose today.

I walked up to the cash register as they finished their order and gently placed my hand on the register.

“I’d like to take care of your meal today.”

His wife’s face was priceless. “What?” She said, obviously shocked.

“Thank you for your sacrifice and service to our country.” I said, trying my best to push through the tearful lump in my throat.

She said a gentle thank you and Kendyl and I walked hand in hand back to our seat.

And then came those emotion-filled hot tears. My tears.

Sometimes God wants to use our devoted obedience to bless us as much as we bless others.

Sometimes He uses those moments of obedience to strengthen the faith of our children.

“And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” Acts 20:35

We cannot out give God.

We cannot out love God.

We simply must be obedient in the big things and small things. Those moments when He beckons a seeking heart to be His hands and feet.

God is looking for seeking hearts and broken vessels.

He’s looking for heartfelt, butt naked shower prayers.

He’s looking for ordinary, average every day people like you and me.

Tune out the noise today and tune in to the whispers of the Holy Spirit. Seek the Lord with all your heart.  You could be the connection between someone and their blessing.

Step Into the Light

Light and darkness cannot coexist. Either there is total darkness without the presence of light, or there is light overtaking the darkness.

Think about it. Your bedroom is pitch black because all lights are off. When you turn on a lamp or flip a light switch – instant light! The darkness can no longer remain when there is light.

The Light (Jesus Christ) will always illuminate the darkness. Darkness can’t stand in the presence of the light. Demons flee and Satan trembles at the presence of God Almighty! All of hell thought they had this thing in the bag when Jesus was crucified and hung lifeless on the cross, BUT GOD had other plans!!

For years I found myself wallowing in sin.  I had convinced myself that because no one knew about these dark places, I was fine and there would be no consequences.  The enemy is a pretty strategic guy, isn’t he?

This double life we lead with perfectly placed masks leads to destruction.  It may not happen immediately but ultimately leads us into places we never intended on placing our feet.

Our only hope is to allow the Light to illuminate the darkness in our lives.

Matthew 6:24 says, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

Take out the word “money” and exchange it for whatever has gripped you and held you in bondage.

“You cannot serve both God and porn.”
“You cannot serve both God and alcohol.
“You cannot not serve both God and fear.”
“You cannot serve both God and darkness.

“You cannot serve both God and ________.”

God sent His only son, Jesus, so we could be rescued from our sin and walk in the light.  We are not left without hope!

God foreknew our failure yet He preplanned a promise.
And that promise is woven so beautifully throughout scripture.   The reality of redemption is so real and tangible, we must just grab hold of it!

Fling open those spiritual shades in your life and let the Light come in to overcome the darkness. If you wallow in the darkness, it will overtake you. But if you allow the Light of Christ and the Word of God to illuminate those dark places, you will find unfathomable, unshakable hope!

Walk YOUR walk.

Maybe it’s a woman thing.  Heck, maybe it’s a ME thing.  But one thing I know is this – comparison stinks.

There will always be someone more successful.  Someone prettier.  Someone who seems more qualified.  There’s always going to be someone to compare ourselves to.  To compare our dreams to.

But the great thing is, God hasn’t called the pretty ones to do my job.  And He hasn’t called me to do theirs either.

He’s called me to walk MY walk with everything within me.

Do you struggle with comparison?  { Quietly raises hand while hiding behind the glow of the computer screen.. }

You are you-niquely created with talents that desperately need to be on display to further the kingdom of God.

We can’t do this thing well when we’re so caught up in what he’s doing and what she’s accomplishing.  How many followers they have on Twitter and Instagram and how many shares and retweets their posts have.

God.  Made.  You.  YOU.

You are special.  You are one of a kind.  You are the apple of His eye.  You are amazing.

walk YOUR walk

God hasn’t called you to walk somebody’s else’s walk.

I’ve had several conversations with some blogging friends this past week about this exact thing.  It’s easy to feel like you’re not good enough and like you don’t have what it takes when you compare your walk to someone else’s.  God created us all so differently.  We’re all gifted in various ways, none quite the same.

Maybe you have a gifting with words.  Maybe you’re stellar creative.  Maybe it’s organizational skills. { I’m definitely not in this category. }  Teaching kids.  Nursing in ICU.  Working in the justice system.  School bus driver.

My hubby is a full time nurse and pastor.  He catches on quickly in the medical field and is amazing when you put a mic in his hand in front of a crowd.   On the other hand, I am a stay-at-home-mom, multitasking wife and blogger who wears a ka-jillion hats like a super ninja.  His giftings are different from mine.  Mine are different from his. We couldn’t possibly switch places and expect to have the same results on those around us.

God hasn’t called you to walk somebody else’s walk.

God prepares us for the journey ahead of us.  He has placed within us what it takes to complete our mission.  We just have to trust Him.  Be faithful in the hallway before He opens that next door.  He knows where to find you.

Passionately walk the walk He has destined you for.  Wife, mom, daughter, son, teacher, lawyer, cashier, small business owner.. He will give you the desires of your heart and reward your faithfulness.   Besides, He’s the one who put those desires  there in the first place.

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalm 139:13-16

Can I be real with you?  You will never write like her.  You will never sing like him.  Your house will never be spotless like theirs.  The quicker you accept this reality, the quicker you can release that deep breath you’ve been holding in for so long.  God isn’t asking for perfection, babe, He’s asking for a willing vessel.  Keep doing that thing you’ve been prewired to do.  That thing that brings you joy and others hope.

Be real.  Be bold.  Be.. YOU.  God loves you, beautiful.  He loves your humility and understands your desire to reach more, help more and love more.  But until more comes, be more where you are.  Be the best you that you can be!  And understand that it really is enough.  Be content with who you are, the gifts God has given you and where He has you right now.

What about you?  Have you struggled with comparision?  Overcome it?  I’d love to hear from you!  Please feel free to share your heart below or here on my Facebook page

I’m so pleased to introduced to you a good friend of mine who is sharing her heart on Psalms 17-18!  Tine Levene is a Christian author and comedian in the Tampa Bay area and can be frequently found ministering to women of all walks of life.  Please check out her ministry at here at www.tinatalkstruth.com .  Her new book, “Let Your Forgiveness Become Your Freedom,” is available for pre-order on her website!

—————– Guest Post Tina Levene – Psalms 17-18 ———————-

Have you noticed lately that almost every coffee or food establishment asks for your name after you order?

You stand in line waiting with much anticipation, maybe you are holding a flashing buzzer thing that will vibrate when your order is ready?  Or maybe you are just waiting for that call of your name so you feel unique and special as if you are a long time friend of the chef or barrista.

God does not give us a buzzer to hold with anticipation but He does call out your name.  Do you hear Him?  Have you anticipated such a calling?  Are you as excited to receive God’s calling as you were to get your hands on your white chocolate mocha with caramel drink?

In Psalm 17, it speaks about how the Lord will hear our cry, He will answer when we call out for Him and His hand will protect us.  Do you believe God protects you?  Maybe God allowed an annoying event to happen to protect you today but you were so focused on your life not going as YOU planned that you missed the miracle.  God hears our cries for help, repentance and most of all, our requests in the form of prayers.

In Psalm 18, the song of praise is what I like to call it.  David praises God for rescuing him from his enemies.  Do you have enemies?  Anyone who does not support you?  Someone that hurts you?  This scripture reminds us that the Lord is our rock, our fortress and our deliverer.  When we cry out to God not only does He take the time to listen, He takes His energy to pull us out of deep waters.  What kind of ‘deep waters’ have you gotten yourself into today?  Do you owe someone an apology?  How does it feel to need to be rescued and pulled to safety?

he illuminates

God not only listens to our prayers and rescues us but He also repays us for our faithfulness.  He delights in us when we follow Him and His will for us.  God lights our lamps. He illuminates our darkness.  I don’t know about you but I was in a dark place recently.  God heard my cries, my prayers, rescued me and repaid me for praising Him.  And why?  Why does God do all of this for us?

I am never deserving of His mercy.  I fail God everyday.  I make mistakes after mistakes.  Psalm 18:50 …”He shows loyalty to His anointed.”  Please remember that we wait in that coffee shop line with much anticipation, hoping to hear our name called out soon and excited to engulf in our rewarding purchase.  God is waiting to hear you call out His name today.  He loves strange voices and anticipates rescuing you from your ‘deep waters’.  Will you allow Him to be your refuge, salvation and repay you back for praising Him no matter what how bad your life may be?

Blessings, Tina M. Levene

God has a pretty sweet view from up there. Psalms 9-10 <3

What an exciting week!  It’s such a joy to have to many incredible women of God sharing their hearts on these chapters in the book of Psalms.

I pray you are as fired up about this new year as I am!  Let’s commit to letting our roots anchor deep in the Word of God in 2015!

Ready to dig in on this Marvelous Monday?

Chapter Nine:

equation

❤ Vs. 1, 11, 14: Praise is one of our greatest weapons in times of trouble. It feels normal to praise Him when the battle is over, but we should praise our way through the storm too! Number one, it confuses the enemy! In biblical times, the worshipers went before the army. They ushered in the presence of the Lord before they raised their swords to battle. They understood the importance of praising their way into battle. Praise brings glory to God and hope to the hurting!

❤ Vs. 4, 9-10: God is our refuge and our safe place. When we are living for Him, we are being upheld by His grace. Our plans will flourish when they’re firmly rooted in His will. He’s never going to leave us. He’s never going to turn His back on us.

❤ Vs. 15, 20: We are nothing without God. Mere mice in a cage full of hungry lions. Yet many times we butter ourselves up and run into the cage. When we try to take God out of the equation, things simply don’t add up. We have removed all hope and are asking to fail. We are removing His hand of protection and are asking for trouble.

Chapter Ten:

false hope

❤ Vs. 3-6: When we have it all, it’s hard to feel the “need” for God. Things are going great, money is flowing freely, health is picture perfect.. We’re comfy in our kingdom of false hope. Be very careful when things are going well. It very well could be a carefully thought out trap from the enemy. And it can all be taken away in the blink of an eye.

❤ Vs. 11-14: God sees all, knows all. The good, the bad and the oh so ugly. He sees the the tears that saturate your pillowcase, the way your face lights up when your kids throw their arms around your neck, and the moments we have carefully kept from everyone else. Nothing escapes His sight. He’s got a pretty sweet view from up there. That can be so comforting or completely terrifying, depending on where you find yourself today. As long as you woke up with a pulse this morning, it’s not too late to put your trust in God. There is nothing more freeing than surrendering your life to Christ!

What jumped off the pages at you in Psalms 9-10 today?  I’d love to hear from you!  Jump in the discussion below of here on my facebook page!
