Fighting With Faith

You think it could never happen to you. Until you find a lump. And then everything changes.

This is my friend, Sarah. Her and her husband have a beautiful little girl and two foster children. They also pastor a growing church in Braydenton, FL.

She’s young. A healthy eater. And cancer doesn’t even run in her family. Yet tests came back positive. For the “C” word.

Just because you have Jesus doesn’t mean you’ve been handed a ticket to a worry free life. Christians still face larger than life situations. But here’s the kicker – we don’t face them alone.

There have only been a few times in my life I can say that God has allowed me to “feel” someone’s burden and carry it with them. Feel it to where I physically hurt. Where the tears come in such heavy down pours. When my heart feels like it’s been linked to theirs and I find myself begging God to intervene.

Now I am not rolling in the dough. We are not loaded. I wanted to help but wasn’t sure what I could do to make a drop in the ocean of funds it would take to make a difference.

When praying for a way to help my friend, God reminded me of this pretty cool resource He gave me last year. Real Mom Moments. And immediately I knew that this book project was way bigger than me. That God foreknew what Sarah would be facing and that help was already on the way. And that it would be a double whammy – helping Sarah fight cancer and help moms who would come together to help Sarah.

I pray that you’re able to help in some way. Whether you purchase a book for yourself to help fund Sarah’s treatment or whether you make it your mission to not only help her, but also find a few moms in your inner circle who could use some inspiration and purchase a hand full of books, every penny of the profit during the month of April will go to Sarah’s cancer treatment.

Sarah and I both thank you in advance for your support! Here’s to #fightingwithfaith !!

Big Dreamin’ – How God can turn a “hot mess” into a beautiful message. <3

I’m a hot mess. Even on my better days. But you know what makes me happy all over? The fact that God looks past OUR best and focuses on HIS best for us. He sees our full potential when we are struggling to see even a small part of the puzzle.

I don’t remember my dreams. Seriously guys, they’re usually the result of eating some weird combination of junk food before bed. So they’re totally random or I don’t remember them.

Not these dreams though. These have been more like visions. I’ve only experienced 4 of them, but I will never forget them. They were so vivid and detailed.  You need to know up front that my life verse is Jeremiah 29:11.  “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  God knew the plan long before you were planned.

Jeremiah-29-11-LONG

Here’s an inside look:

Dream 1 – I was standing on stage. Tons of people in the audience. Lights glaring. But it was black and white and muted. Kinda odd, huh? I thought so too. I wrote it off. I’m a youth pastor’s wife. I was probably just announcing a speaker or praise team. Back to sleep..

Dream 2 – Full color, extremely detailed. I saw my outfit down to the jewelry and shoes I was sporting on stage. I was speaking. I. Was. Speaking. Oh my Lord, you’ve got the wrong girl. There’s no way that will ever be me. Can I wake up now??

Dream 3 – Ok, I’m sensing a pattern here. Full color, fully detailed, me speaking. Again. I was on stage. I had the mic. Me. I wasn’t announcing anyone. I was the speaker. Ok God, are you saying you want ME to speak for you? Are you sure you’ve got the right person? Have you prayed about this, Lord?

Dream 4 – This was the most recent and most detailed. I was laying in bed with the kids silently praying about our upcoming woman’s conference. God, what is the message you want shared? Who do you want to be involved? You know how sometimes you pray and pray and pray some more and wait a while to hear God’s answer? Not this time. It was instant. Yes. Instant. He gave me the theme and a few pieces of the puzzle. It was almost like an out of body experience (don’t get all weird on me.) There I was, pacing back and forth at church with the mic firmly gripped in my hand. Passionately proclaiming the Word of God. Oooook God, I hear you. Loud and clear. I’ll stop being stubborn. I’ll do this for you, even if it means doing it afraid.

Has God given you a dream? A plan? An idea that you just can’t shake?

Could it be that it’s His perfect plan for your life?

Fast forward. Present time. February 11th, 10:49am, 55 degrees, Trenton, FL. I just got off the phone with a woman who believes God has a divine plan for my life. And what’s crazy? She’s asked me to speak at her woman’s conference.

Fear Not

What’s the topic, you ask? FEAR. Yep. Fear. F-E-A-R. The thing that’s been holding me back. I’ve been afraid to step out. For various reasons, really. My past, my failures, my age..

God is up to something. And if we will step out of our fear and exercise our faith – beautiful things happen.

A woman was healed from a 12-year blood disease in an instant because she stepped beyond fear and grabbed the hem of Jesus’ clothes by faith. A man was healed because his friends weren’t afraid to tear the roof off the place where The Healer was teaching and lower their friend in faith to reach Him. The sun stood still for man named Joshua because he wasn’t afraid a to pray an impossible looking prayer of faith to a God who answered him.

If we want to see God move in a mighty way, we can’t let fear paralyze us. Faith stomps on fear. Faith eats fear for lunch.

And faith causes us to say “Yes, Lord” when someone asks us to share our story at a woman’s conference. About fear. Ohh yes, baby, yes. Only God can do these things. ❤

I’m so humbled, y’all. I’m just a small town girl who serves a big God. A 26-year-old who is ready to leave the past – the ugly, jagged past – behind her and step out in faith. As scary and messy as it looks, I refuse to let fear hold me back. I nailed that to the cross at the last conference.

Saying “yes” when it’s scary precedes big victories in the kingdom of God. Ask Rahab. Moses. Peter. Paul.

Ask Jesus.

All I can say is, GET READY! God is up to something and He wants to use YOU to reach people. Right where you are, right where you’ve been. He wants to turn your mess into a message. Because who knows this place like you do? You’re familiar with the struggles, fears and doubts. God wants to use you, beautiful. He really, really wants to use – y.o.u.

Can we place our faith in the hands of The Potter? Let’s do this together.

Have you stepped out in faith? I’d love to hear your story!

Let’s Dig In! {1 Peter Chaper 1}

Shhh… it’s naptime. And sometimes those sweet little wild-haired cuties that call me Mom have been known to fall asleep while eating.  It’s hard not to giggle, I know.

What do they put in those fries?!

What do they put in those fries?!

I’m sorry I’m a day late posting!  I’ve been working on our church website and social media.  Feel free to check it out at www.livingpraisetrenton.com .  It’s still a work in progress.  If you have any web design tips, please hit me up!  🙂

I’m super stoked about sharing with you some great insights and encouragement from the book of 1 Peter this week! I pray that if you’re not already subscribed to my free email updates, that you’ll do so to stay connected by entering your email address into the space provided to your right. It’s free and encouraging! 🙂

I want to share with you today 10 key points I have found through studying, highlighting and praying about chapter one. But before I do that, I want to give you a little brief bio on Peter and an intro to this little book of insight.

Peter was a fisherman when Jesus found him, befriended him and called out to him, “Follow me.” {Matthew 4:18-20}

Do you remember who you were when Jesus found you?

Peter became a right-hand-man to Jesus. You could say they were best friends. He watched in awe and wonder as Jesus performed many miracles throughout his ministry. He suffered greatly for following Jesus and even denied him, but later got his act together and inspired many to follow his Savior. I think we all can take notes from his life.

In chapter 1, Peter writes to God’s chosen people and describes them as being “scattered” throughout many regions. He wishes them grace and peace and goes on to share this living hope they {and we} have through the death, burial & resurrection of Jesus Christ.

1 peter 1 13

Here are 10 things I found so encouraging! Pull out those highlighters!

  1. We have a living hope in Jesus Christ! If He hadn’t risen like He said He would on the 3rd day, we wouldn’t have this living hope! He’s a promise keeper! (vs. 3)
  2. We have a protected inheritance waiting for us in Heaven! No one can touch or destroy what God has prepared for us! (vs. 4)
  3. Through faith, we are shielded by God’s power! Kay Arthur touched heavily on this one during her live simulcast Friday night. It doesn’t matter what comes our way, we are protected through faith by God’s power! Praise God! (vs. 5)
  4. We will have trials and struggles, but this refines our faith and brings glory to God! We can’t escape frustrating situations and unexplainable circumstances we are faced with, but if we maintain the right attitude and remain faithful, God will receive the glory and we may see others around us be encouraged in their journey. (vs. 6-9)
  5. Suffering always comes before glory. Jesus suffered tremendously on the cross. Unfortunately, those mere words don’t even do it justice. However, when all was said and done, He was glorified through the Father. One thing is for sure, God’s power and glory was revealed in a mighty way that day! Remember – suffering always comes before glory. (vs. 11)
  6. Everything is not about ME. That’s a shocker, isn’t it? So many times we make things all about us. Our successes, our struggles, our pity parties. If we would only grasp this concept like the disciples did, we would make such a greater impact on this world around by allowing the life-changing light of Christ to shine through us. (vs. 12)
  7. Be prepared. Have self-control. Be holy & refuse to conform to the evil of this world. I’ve heard all my life we are living in the “last days” and boy do I believe it now. There is so much evil and perversity in this world; it’s scary. We as the body of Christ have got to be prepared. Stay in the Word and be holy. Have self-control and refuse to conform – no matter how hard the big ugly giants stare us coldly in the eyes. (vs. 13-16)
  8. This isn’t our home. This world we live in is temporary, praise God! We must live in reverent fear of the Lord as strangers in this world. Remember, as believers we have an inheritance waiting for us in Heaven! This world has nothing in comparison! (vs. 17)
  9. We were bought with a price. And it wasn’t cheap. I don’t know many who would willingly lay their life down for people who they knew would reject them. Yet Jesus was in this thing for the long haul and said, “Yet not as I will, but as you will”{Matthew 26:39-42; emphasis mine}. We were bought with a heavy price – every last drop of life and blood our precious Savior had in His body. We ought to live like we are grateful. (vs. 18-21)
  10. Love one another deeply – from the heart. We are told many times throughout the bible to love one another. In 1 Corinthians 13 we are reminded of what love is. Love is patient, love is kind.. You can find so much more there if you continue to read along. Then backing up to John 21:15-17, Jesus speaks to his beloved Peter and says “Feed my lambs” and “Take care of my sheep.” Jesus didn’t place limitations on this command. Not to only love when we feel like it or when it’s convenient, or when it is reciprocated. Do you love one another deeply, from the heart?

I don’t know about you today, but I’m encouraged! I’m encouraged to know that we are not alone in this life. There are so many warriors in the faith that have walked this road before us and have left us such precious, golden nuggets of wisdom waiting to be unpacked in the Word of God.

I’d love to hear what God has spoken to you through 1 Peter 1 today! Will you share your thoughts below? Please share with a friend if you enjoy these posts!
