Category Archives: Hope Floats :)

Chances are, whatever you’re going through – there’s HOPE. :)

It ain’t over ’til God says it’s over.

It’s hard calling it “Good Friday.”  Because for what it appeared, it looked to be anything but good.  The Messiah flogged, beaten, spit upon, mocked and his tattered flesh brutally nailed to a wooden splinter-ridden cross.  Sounds more like #worstdayever

Ohhh honey… but I believe Jesus knew deep down, despite the physical agony, despite the vast array of emotions – despite it all, He knew that it was indeed a good Friday.

It was on this particular day, even though it started off on the wrong foot, that He accomplished more than He had accomplished in His life thus far.  Yes He had healed people, yes He performed miracles and brought many into the family of God.  However on this day, the curtain was torn in the temple giving us access to the Father anytime, any place.  He did what no one else could do and became the sacrifice for the sins of the world so that ALL could accept the gift of eternal life.  He took a three day hiatus to show the devil who was boss and that death had no power over Him.  Now them’s shouting words right there!  #itaintover

It ain't over

I don’t know what you’re facing today, but I know who holds you in the palm of His hands.  It may look like it’s anything but good right now, but just wait – Sunday is coming.  Life is coming.  Resurrection is coming!  It may appear that you’ve been forgotten, washed up and left mangled to pieces, but I know a man who has been there, done that and bought way more than a t-shirt to prove that it’s not the end.  It’s instead, part of the process.

We couldn’t have the triumph without the trial.  We couldn’t have the testimony without the test.

We have hope because He didn’t walk out when it got uncomfortable.  He didn’t throw in the towel and call for backup.  He endured what was before Him and proved we truly are overcomers through Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:37)

It may hurt right now and not make any sense, but there is always a purpose.  Always remember, what the enemy means for your harm, God can turn around for your good.  (Romans 8:28)

Happy Good Friday, y’all!  ❤  Just wanted to share my heart in a brief video.  I pray it encourages you like it did me!

(These videos always capture a still shot of the worst facial expressions! haha!)

lawd have mercy.

Mercy.

Google defines it as “compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.”

Can you use a little mercy today?
Think about this for a moment.

There are 365 days in a year. Take your age and multiply that by 365. Seriously, do this right now. 😀

I’m 27. And 27 x 365 = 9,855

God has given me 9,855 mercy moments. Fresh starts. Brand spanking new opportunities. That’s mind blowing!

Tomorrow is coming and with that new tomorrow comes new mercy. Because God knew today’s leftovers just wouldn’t cut it.

Each day requires new mercy. And baby that heavenly goodness is better than a gooey chocolate chunk cookie straight out of the oven. Straight from the throne room of a risen Savior with the keys to death, hell and the grave – new mercy awaits you and I.

So if you feel like you bombed today, wipe the dirt off your knees and the tears of frustration from your eyes. Tomorrow is coming. And so is a perfectly packaged bundle of mercy.

Your Prayers are Precious to God

Reading in Revelations this morning, I was humbled to the point of tears. The kids will be up soon and I don’t want you to miss this so I’ll make it quick.

Ready?

Your prayers aren’t just hitting the ceiling. (I know sometimes it really does feel this way, doesn’t it?)

No, my sweet friend. They are being purposefully collected and placed in a bowl of precious gold and placed before The Lord.

“…they were holding golden bowls of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.” Revelation 5:8

Now to some this may seem über religious. To some this may sound just plain weird.

But to me, it makes my heart swell. It reminds me I am not forgotten. It makes me realize just how important my prayers are to the King of kings and God of my salvation. That He is never too busy to hear my prayers. This isn’t like a collection of mail at the post office waiting to be sorted. Ohhhh no. This is a sacred collection that is so beautiful and held close to God’s heart.

I’m not sure what brings you to your knees today, whether it be the illness of a loved one, overwhelmed by life, depression, divorce, death of a child, pain in your body, job security, financial struggle, or simply feeling like a piece of paper being blown around in the wind.

But this I KNOW – you are so precious to God. He loves you SO much; more than you will ever know. He paid the ultimate price by sending His one and only Son to take our place on the cross.

Trust Him. You may not understand the storm you are facing, but know that the One who calms the storm sometimes finds it necessary to simply calm His child. There’s so much peace to be found in the arms of Jesus!

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Wherever life finds you today, I pray you are overwhelmed with God’s unconditional, unchanging head over heels crazy love for you.

He treasures the prayers of His children just like we as parents treasure the words and artwork of our children. Except His fridge doesn’t get full, He pulls out the bowls of pure gold and holds on to them to answer in His timing.

You are SO loved.  ❤

Naked Prayers

“God’s not dead, He’s surely alive! He’s living on the inside roaring like a lion.”  – Newsboys

And that He did.

Today, actually.

This morning I found myself in the shower crying. The realization that God uses cracked vessels to accomplish His will is so overwhelming.

“Use me, Lord. I just want to touch someone’s heart and be your hands and feet today…”

Cleaning the house this morning and surfing Facebook, I happened upon our worship leader’s status:

One minute I’m dusting, folding clothes, wiping butts….

Then out of nowhere, BAM! A craving for a Chick-fil-A sandwich, waffle fries, Dr. Pepper and a warm cookie hit this preggo like a freight train. So of course the kids and I on a whim, hop in the van, drive 45 minutes down the road to the closest CFA.

Honestly I had forgotten about my shower prayer. But God hadn’t.

We ordered our food and the kids took off to the playground. Walking to the table, a gentleman in army uniform caught my eye.

And that’s when I heard it: Pay for his meal.

I knew that voice. I’ve heard it many times. It was the gentle, yet roaring prompting of the Holy Spirit.

The man walks up to a lady in pink, obviously his wife, and 4 small children. Now I was prepared to pay for his meal. But suddenly the tab grew larger. Yet the prompting grew stronger by the minute.

Pay for the meal. Their meal.

Now I don’t know if it’s because the 4th of July is only days away and it was some type of subconscious patriotism or if this family truly needed to see genuine love from another human being, but regardless, God connected our paths for a divine purpose today.

I walked up to the cash register as they finished their order and gently placed my hand on the register.

“I’d like to take care of your meal today.”

His wife’s face was priceless. “What?” She said, obviously shocked.

“Thank you for your sacrifice and service to our country.” I said, trying my best to push through the tearful lump in my throat.

She said a gentle thank you and Kendyl and I walked hand in hand back to our seat.

And then came those emotion-filled hot tears. My tears.

Sometimes God wants to use our devoted obedience to bless us as much as we bless others.

Sometimes He uses those moments of obedience to strengthen the faith of our children.

“And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” Acts 20:35

We cannot out give God.

We cannot out love God.

We simply must be obedient in the big things and small things. Those moments when He beckons a seeking heart to be His hands and feet.

God is looking for seeking hearts and broken vessels.

He’s looking for heartfelt, butt naked shower prayers.

He’s looking for ordinary, average every day people like you and me.

Tune out the noise today and tune in to the whispers of the Holy Spirit. Seek the Lord with all your heart.  You could be the connection between someone and their blessing.

In the Potter’s Hands

Sometimes we find ourselves being thrusted into uncomfortable, unfamiliar places. Life gets unbearable, painful and just plain sucky at times.

It’s easy in our human nature to tense up, clam up and close up.

But instead – God wants us to grow. He wants us to prosper and gain wisdom and knowledge. And sometimes we have to walk through the fire of uncertainty and unfamiliarity in order to truly understand He will never leave us of forsake us.

It’s in the fire that we are tested and refined.

This morning I was reading in 2 Corinthians and came upon this passage of scripture.   I’m so blown away by Paul’s humility.   He is one of my favorite authors in scripture.   His is so openly transparent in his suffering.

“..for we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself.  Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death.  But it was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.”  2 Corinthians 1:8-9

Sometimes life just plain sucks.  The doctors give a grim report, job loss paralyzes our finances, friends betray us and families get ripped apart at the seams.  One thing after another after another.   Things spiral out of our control leaving us feeling rattled and shattered.

We are not left alone to pick up the broken pieces.

Paul even admits that life became unbearable.  Pain hurts!  But he goes on to say in verse 10 that they have set their hope in Christ that he will deliver them again. God remains faithful to His track record of deliverance.

Sometimes we have to endure the trials to become more pliable in His hands.

I’ve heard so many times the reference of God being the patient potter.   We are the lumpy pile of clay in his hands and He patiently molds us and shapes us into who we are called to be.  When we become jagged and brittle, we go back on the Potter’s wheel and are reshaped and refined.  We are most pliable in the hands of the Potter.

I recorded this last night after dropping off our kids at VBS and feel so strongly that someone needs to hear these words.  Please feel free to share with someone needing encouragement.

Don’t give up, my sweet friend.  And don’t try to jump off the Potter’s wheel.   You are safe in the palm of His hands.

Step Into the Light

Light and darkness cannot coexist. Either there is total darkness without the presence of light, or there is light overtaking the darkness.

Think about it. Your bedroom is pitch black because all lights are off. When you turn on a lamp or flip a light switch – instant light! The darkness can no longer remain when there is light.

The Light (Jesus Christ) will always illuminate the darkness. Darkness can’t stand in the presence of the light. Demons flee and Satan trembles at the presence of God Almighty! All of hell thought they had this thing in the bag when Jesus was crucified and hung lifeless on the cross, BUT GOD had other plans!!

For years I found myself wallowing in sin.  I had convinced myself that because no one knew about these dark places, I was fine and there would be no consequences.  The enemy is a pretty strategic guy, isn’t he?

This double life we lead with perfectly placed masks leads to destruction.  It may not happen immediately but ultimately leads us into places we never intended on placing our feet.

Our only hope is to allow the Light to illuminate the darkness in our lives.

Matthew 6:24 says, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

Take out the word “money” and exchange it for whatever has gripped you and held you in bondage.

“You cannot serve both God and porn.”
“You cannot serve both God and alcohol.
“You cannot not serve both God and fear.”
“You cannot serve both God and darkness.

“You cannot serve both God and ________.”

God sent His only son, Jesus, so we could be rescued from our sin and walk in the light.  We are not left without hope!

God foreknew our failure yet He preplanned a promise.
And that promise is woven so beautifully throughout scripture.   The reality of redemption is so real and tangible, we must just grab hold of it!

Fling open those spiritual shades in your life and let the Light come in to overcome the darkness. If you wallow in the darkness, it will overtake you. But if you allow the Light of Christ and the Word of God to illuminate those dark places, you will find unfathomable, unshakable hope!

I encourage you today to check out “Forever” by Kari Jobe.  We will overcome!!

Ordinary, Average Joe

Don’t let the enemy or anyone else convince you that you’re not good enough, educated enough or seasoned enough.
There are so many negative, life sucking labels we carry.   Whether they have been placed by ourselves or someone else – it’s time they’re removed.  God didn’t call perfect people – He is calling broken, imperfect followers.

Peter and John were regular, ordinary, average Joe’s. Yet Jesus called them to be His closest friends and witness the extraordinary. God isn’t calling people who have it all together. The bible says he came to help those in need and restore them and send them out into the world to share the gospel.

He’s calling YOU. He’s calling ME. He’s calling US. The average, ordinary,  simple, underweight, overweight, unloved, excluded, loser, failure, stupid, uneducated, underpaid, divorced, single, widow, abused, rejected, hated, abandoned, lost…

He has called us to be with Him. And oh baby, when we’re with Him people see His glory on us. They see His light in our eyes. He bible says that Moses glowed when he came back down the mountain from being in God’s presence. That charges me up, y’all!
Spend time in His presence today.  Soak up His presence.  And lay down all those labels.  God can and will use you to do great and mighty things for the kingdom – if you’ll let Him.
Share with someone and encourage each other today to get in His presence and shine bright for Him! The world desperately needs to experience Him!

Walk YOUR walk.

Maybe it’s a woman thing.  Heck, maybe it’s a ME thing.  But one thing I know is this – comparison stinks.

There will always be someone more successful.  Someone prettier.  Someone who seems more qualified.  There’s always going to be someone to compare ourselves to.  To compare our dreams to.

But the great thing is, God hasn’t called the pretty ones to do my job.  And He hasn’t called me to do theirs either.

He’s called me to walk MY walk with everything within me.

Do you struggle with comparison?  { Quietly raises hand while hiding behind the glow of the computer screen.. }

You are you-niquely created with talents that desperately need to be on display to further the kingdom of God.

We can’t do this thing well when we’re so caught up in what he’s doing and what she’s accomplishing.  How many followers they have on Twitter and Instagram and how many shares and retweets their posts have.

God.  Made.  You.  YOU.

You are special.  You are one of a kind.  You are the apple of His eye.  You are amazing.

walk YOUR walk

God hasn’t called you to walk somebody’s else’s walk.

I’ve had several conversations with some blogging friends this past week about this exact thing.  It’s easy to feel like you’re not good enough and like you don’t have what it takes when you compare your walk to someone else’s.  God created us all so differently.  We’re all gifted in various ways, none quite the same.

Maybe you have a gifting with words.  Maybe you’re stellar creative.  Maybe it’s organizational skills. { I’m definitely not in this category. }  Teaching kids.  Nursing in ICU.  Working in the justice system.  School bus driver.

My hubby is a full time nurse and pastor.  He catches on quickly in the medical field and is amazing when you put a mic in his hand in front of a crowd.   On the other hand, I am a stay-at-home-mom, multitasking wife and blogger who wears a ka-jillion hats like a super ninja.  His giftings are different from mine.  Mine are different from his. We couldn’t possibly switch places and expect to have the same results on those around us.

God hasn’t called you to walk somebody else’s walk.

God prepares us for the journey ahead of us.  He has placed within us what it takes to complete our mission.  We just have to trust Him.  Be faithful in the hallway before He opens that next door.  He knows where to find you.

Passionately walk the walk He has destined you for.  Wife, mom, daughter, son, teacher, lawyer, cashier, small business owner.. He will give you the desires of your heart and reward your faithfulness.   Besides, He’s the one who put those desires  there in the first place.

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalm 139:13-16

Can I be real with you?  You will never write like her.  You will never sing like him.  Your house will never be spotless like theirs.  The quicker you accept this reality, the quicker you can release that deep breath you’ve been holding in for so long.  God isn’t asking for perfection, babe, He’s asking for a willing vessel.  Keep doing that thing you’ve been prewired to do.  That thing that brings you joy and others hope.

Be real.  Be bold.  Be.. YOU.  God loves you, beautiful.  He loves your humility and understands your desire to reach more, help more and love more.  But until more comes, be more where you are.  Be the best you that you can be!  And understand that it really is enough.  Be content with who you are, the gifts God has given you and where He has you right now.

What about you?  Have you struggled with comparision?  Overcome it?  I’d love to hear from you!  Please feel free to share your heart below or here on my Facebook page

Give Prayer a Try

It’s easy to think about it.

It’s rolls off the tongue when we talk about it.

It completely consumes us when we worry about it.

But the question is – are we PRAYING about it?

Sometimes life’s volume button appears to get stuck. Situations seem louder than the gentle whispers of our sweet Savior. It’s so easy to {accidentally} tune the truth out, isn’t it?

IMG_8493.JPG

We can think until our head hurts, talk until we have no voice and worry until we make ourselves sick. And then we try praying.

Are we treating prayer as a last resort? When all else fails, try praying about it?

If this is the case, oh my sweet friend, we have this thing backwards.

The bible says to “pray without ceasing” {1 Thessalonians 5:17}. It also reminds us to trust in the Lord completely and not lean on our own understanding {Proverbs 3:5}.

We can’t do this on our own. We weren’t created to carry these weighty burdens. We were designed with a need that could only be filled by the saving grace of our Savior.

Before you waste another moment thinking, a breath talking or an anxious stomach worrying – pray. Take it to your knees in prayer.

Because no matter the situation, God has not forgotten your name. He hasn’t forgotten where you are and what you are facing today.

Rest in this truth, my friend. Prayer is such a powerful connection God has given us. There is power in our words. Use them for uplifting and encouraging yourself and others who so desperately need it.

You may not be able to change the situation, BUT the greatest thing you can do is pray through it!

Fill Up, Babe.

It is so amazing to me how God unveils life’s greatest wisdom through gentle whispers, if we will only make time to listen.

We may need to clean a little wax from our stubborn ears in order to clearly hear His voice. Maybe wipe the dust from the bible on the night stand that has longed to be picked up for so long.

IMG_8352-0.JPG

We must make time for Him.

We must spend time soaking in His Word.

Even if it means we have to wake up half an hour before the kids pop their heads up. (Can I get a weary mama amen?)

We must spend time in prayer.

And then.. Then and only then..

We will hear from Him. Perhaps while drinking a pumpkin spice cappuccino.

I pray you are encouraged as you watch this brief video. Love you guys!

Fill up, babe. Your life depends on it. Others lives depend on it. Refuse to walk around empty anymore. Allow yourself to be filled by the one who can change. your. life. forever.

Ask the Samaritan woman in John 4:13-15. That’s a good “homework assignment” to leave you with tonight. Hey, I know it’s the weekend. 😉
