The competition was in full swing when my eyes caught them in action. Competitive and fully engaged in the game in front of them, it was as if no one else was in the restaurant. They didn’t pull out their phones, tablets or any other devices. They looked each other in the eyes and enjoyed some uninterrupted game time together. {You can find the video on my Instagram @lifeunscripted5}
We have gotten so caught up in the technology that is supposed to keep us “connected” that we’re missing a lot of crucial face to face time. We were created to desire intimate relationship. When we try to substitute what our Creator designed us for, we’re left feeling this gaping void with jagged edges. Look up, babe.
I’m one of the worst with feeling handcuffed to my phone. I check it frequently for work, ministry and personal use. But somewhere along the way it’s disguised itself as the “new norm” and leaves me feeling inadequate.
If you haven’t noticed, people are totally different on social media than in real life. Normally what is posted reflects extreme highs or lows in their life. You don’t always get to see the nitty gritty details.
For instance, this picture is completely adorable of our kids. Beautiful, right? To get this picture, it literally took 45 minutes of two little curly-headed munchkins pushing, shoving, crocodile tears and mommy promising everything from ice cream to new toys. To get ONE good picture.
Things aren’t always what they seem , beautiful. No one has the perfect life they showcase on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
Let’s determine today to power down our devices and look people in the eyes. Enjoy the ones around you. Crazy, chaotic, beautifully messy. Enjoy them. They won’t always be there begging for your attention. Look up, babe.
I want to leave you with this passage from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. You are loved. We can do this together!
Comment below some ways you set aside special, uninterrupted time for the ones you love! Can’t wait to hear your ideas!
